Bankruptcy proceedings for the Diocese of Stockton continued on schedule this week as the court held a routine status conference and deferred action on two motions by the Diocese.
At the Feb. 26 hearing, the Diocese’s attorney briefed the court on case developments so far, including the appointment of mediator Judge Gregg Zive and the scheduling of the first mediation session for April 28. The court received the Diocese’s summary without objection or issue.
The court also approved an agreement between the Diocese and the Creditors’ Committee to postpone until March 12 action on two motions filed by the Diocese. The motions seek permission to continue paying two consultants, one helping with media and public outreach and one providing assistance regarding the reorganization of diocesan programs, services and staffing.
The court is expected to rule on the motions at the March 12 hearing. Indicating that the proceedings seemed to be on track, the court scheduled the next status conference for June 25 at 10 a.m.
